Description

Program Director position for a new Family Medicine residency program

Inland Behavioral and Health Services (IBHS) is seeking a Certified Family Medicine physician with experience in academic medicine to serve as our new Program Director in San Bernardino, CA. This is an opportunity to develop and lead a community-based Family Medicine Residency Program.

IBHS is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) with three locations in San Bernardino, CA and one in Banning, CA. IBHS serves the needs of our community by providing medical services (family medicine, pediatrics, and OB), dental, substance abuse treatment, WIC, and ancillary services such as on-site pharmacy, lab, X-Ray, and mammography.

Program Director Highlights

The program director has responsibility, authority, and accountability for: administration and operations; teaching and scholarly activity; resident recruitment and selection, evaluation, and promotion of residents, and disciplinary action; supervision of residents; and resident education in the context of patient care.

·         The PD will have the unique opportunity to assist in creating and growing brand-new-community-based academic residency program.

·         The PD will assist in overseeing the administration, educational activities, recruitment, evaluation, and supervision of 18 residents in the 6-6-6 residency program.

·         The ambulatory PD will receive 40% FTE for direct patient care and 60% FTE for residency program-related activities such as clinical supervision and patient care with residents, curriculum development, didactic sessions, workshops, program administration, scholarly activities, and professional engagement. This is an inaugural program and FTE may be adjusted for year one.

·         Maintained current knowledge and compliance with ACGME Institutional and Program requirements.

·         Mentor residency faculty and monitor all faculty academic appointments, assignments, professionalism, engagement, and overall effectiveness of educational activities. Conduct annual faculty performance reviews. Develop a faculty development program that encourages professional growth, instruction on evidence-based clinical and didactic teaching methods, and resident evaluation.

·         Recruit, retain, and promote a high-caliber resident body reflective of the community they serve. Encourage residents to develop and build upon their commitment to excellence in whole-person patient care, and demonstrate competency in scholarly activity, display high ethics and professionalism, and actively participate in their medical education.

·         Establish and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations and academic teaching institutions, as required. Positively interact with the faculty of those institutions to coordinate faculty development and resident training and education.

Requirements

 

Requirements

Interested candidates should have the following:

·         Board certification in Family Medicine through the American Board of Family Medicine or through the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.

·         Specialty expertise in Family Medicine and at least three years of documented educational and/or administrative experience

·         Ability to obtain a Medical License in the State of California

·         Vision for development of a new FM residency program

·         At least 3 to five years of educational and/or administrative experience with prior teaching experience in an ACGME-accredited residency program.

·         Commitment to providing care to diverse populations and underserved populations

·         Prior teaching experience or other GME leadership roles, such as roles on the Clinical Competency Committee, Program Evaluation Committee, or the rotation site director in an ACGME-accredited residency program is preferred

·         Demonstrated experience in curriculum development or the evaluation, teaching, and mentorship of residents is preferred but no required.
