Position Summary:
The Director of Prosthetics provides comprehensive prosthetic patient care within a physician- led patient care clinic. The Prosthetist performs direct patient care services for the treatment of prosthetics as directed by the Amputee Associates Standards of Patient Care.

Responsibilities & Duties:
Provide pre-amputation information and support to patient and family
Work collaboratively with physician and surgical staff
Make hospital rounds pre and post surgery
Coordination assistance for post hospital discharge follow up with patient at next level of care (rehab, SNF, home)
Assess patient for proper prosthetic care
Fit patients for prosthesis
Provide patient and family education regarding prosthetic care and recovery
Formulate, implement and follow up of comprehensive prosthetic treatment plan
Complete accurate and timely documentation
Ensure all elements are completed for all payer requirements
Provide superior customer service
Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of public relations of the clinic
Maintain continuing education requirements as appropriate
Tasks may include any of the following:
Coordinate peer counseling with patients
Corroborate with Surgeon on optimal amputation level/technique
Observe the amputation procedure in the OR whenever possible; following the procedure, apply dressing and/or fit the post-op compression and protective devices in the OR
Connect with the patient's family members or caregivers whenever possible
Coordinate discharge plan with surgeon and caseworker at the hospital. Create a follow up plan with the patient prior to discharge
Review patient history and assessment findings
Perform limb shape capture procedure by hand or using scanning system (measure, take impression, delineate, scan, digitize)
Fabricate/assemble/align prosthesis in order to prepare for initial or diagnostic fitting
Assess alignment of prosthesis
Complete fabrication process after achieving optimal fit and function of prosthesis (e.g. convert diagnostic device to definitive prosthesis)
Educate patient about use and maintenance of the prosthesis
Obtain feedback from patient to evaluate outcomes (wear schedule/tolerance, comfort, ability to don and off, proper usage and function)
Practice Management:
Comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations (e.g, CMS,HIPAA, FDA, ADA, OSHA, state licensure).
Adhere to professional and ethical guidelines.
Comply with established documentation requirements related to patient billing and claims management.
Promote a safe and professional environment for patient care.
Manage practice expenses and materials to meet or exceed budget projections.
Manage practice operations to ensure achievement of daily, weekly and monthly goals for sales, revenues, cash and accounts receivable.
Requirements
Current board certification in Prosthetics from the American Board of Certification (ABC).
Baccalaureate degree in prosthetics, or the foreign equivalent and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics.
A valid driver’s license and driving record.
In states where licensure is required, the ability to obtain and maintain state licensure may be required as well.
Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques frequently throughout the course of a work day/shift, must be capable of easily fifty (50) pounds of weight alone.
Ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly during a work day/shift.
Visual acuity (near and distant) sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people, and understand written direction.
Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions.
Ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the clinic.
Fine motor skills adequate for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment, and supplies for treatment.
Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours in duration in accordance with state labor laws.
Strong interpersonal skills and supervisory skills.
Strong understanding of financial and accounting practices.
Competent knowledge of prosthetics patient care management.
Demonstration of competence in evaluating the fit and function of prosthesis.
Required to be proficient in Windows based office technologies (Word, Excel, etc.)
