Provides leadership in the administration, oversight, management, and policy development for a comprehensive academic analysis, academic support, academic advising, tutoring, and mentoring program for student-athletes in all ICA Division I athletic programs at UCSB. Direct oversight of the Athletic admissions process, working in collaboration with the Director of Admissions, admissions counselors, and Athletic Academic Review Committee. Uses expert knowledge of current Institutional, NCAA, conference legislation, policy, and procedures. Responsible for the direct oversight of staff as well as programming to support academic success identified by retention and graduation of student-athletes. Responsible for creating and implementing systems to support the achievement of NCAA academic standards. Monitors satisfactory progress of student-athletes according to UCSB, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations, ensuring that this information is used to accurately advise student-athletes as they progress towards degrees. Analyzes complex student cases and develops solutions regarding NCAA initial and continuing eligibility. Serves as liaison between the College of Letters and Science/Intercollegiate Athletics and other academic and non-academic campus units. Provides training and education on NCAA regulations to college and department units. Direct oversight of the Athletic admissions process, working in collaboration with the Director of Admissions, admissions counselors, and the Athletic Academic Review Committee. Assists with the admissions evaluation process for prospective student-athletes. Develops and implements programs to enhance the academic and life skills opportunities for student-athletes. Creates and provides academic analysis and progress reports to ICA administration, L&S, department coaches, and staff. Assists with Academic Progress Rate (APR), Graduate Success Rate (GSR), and Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) reporting and documenting procedures in collaboration with the Registrar's office and the athletics department's compliance office. Assists with Admissions evaluation processes for prospective student-athletes. Develop, produce, and present reports on student-athlete outcomes to ICA administration and other academic and non-academic campus units such as L&S, the Office of the Chancellor, and the Academic Senate.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in related area and /or equivalent experience/training 1-3 years Experience advising/counseling students in higher education or related field. 1-3 years Experience assisting in coordinating programs, workshops, and community service and leadership development experiences for student-athletes. 1-3 years Experience in academic advising in a higher education setting. 1-3 years Experience in serving diverse student populations Expert knowledge in current Institutional, NCAA, conference legislation, policy and procedures. Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Thorough knowledge of college / school policies, procedures, and requirements. Thorough knowledge of department/college / school precedents and application of policy. Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, and project management. Ability to multi-task. Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, and ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Knowledge of and ability to interpret NCAA legislation and UCSB Academic Senate Policy. Knowledge of multiple majors, colleges, and schools. Thorough knowledge of student advising techniques. Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and precise reports and other business correspondence. Strong computer skills including but not limited to: Google Suite, Zoom, MS Office Familiar with Letters and Science departments and curricula. Demonstrated computer proficiency using standard office and educational applications
Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years Experience in a supervisory role. 1-3 years assisting students with issues such as grievances, appeals, academic standing, and other academic problems. 1-3 years in using student information systems, databases, word processing and other technology needed to provide academic advising
