- System Electrical Engineer/Senior System Electrical Engineer
Description
This position plans, organizes, designs and implements work in the Operations Dept. related to the engineering, construction, operation, maintenance and improvement of the District’s overhead & underground electric T&D systems.
Typical Duties Include:
Ø Design and schedule long and short-term construction, maintenance and pole inspection programs.
Ø Ensure projects are prioritized and that projects conform to pertinent standards and codes.
Ø Oversee development of electrical control schematics, one-lines and mechanical drawings for a variety of switchgear and control applications.
Ø Perform, supervise and/or review system calculations and studies for electrical power systems.
Ø Provide technical expertise, mentoring and support to non-engineers and other field service personnel.
Ø Develop technical bid tabulations to support selection of switchgear and related equipment, as well as preparing bid proposals, project schedules and manpower requirements.
Ø Prepare construction bid documents and specifications for new T&D lines, relocations and system upgrades.
Ø Coordinate joint projects with local utilities and State, City and County entities.
Ø Assist in preparation of departmental budget and monitor departmental expenses approved under annual budget.
Requirements
Ø A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university (Senior = minimum of five years relevant experience in the electric utility industry.) (Major in Power Engineering is preferred)
Ø Ability to become registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.
Ø Ability to read, correctly interpret, and apply electrical one-lines, schematics, blueprints and technical instruction manuals. Ability to interpret and design protective relay control schemes.
Ø Comprehensive knowledge of electric utility construction, operations and maintenance procedures, and power distribution and associated equipment.
Ø Effective working knowledge of T&D line engineering, National Electric Code, National Electrical Safety Code, ANSI, California Title 8 and Cal/OSHA Rules and Regulations.
Ø Must be willing and able to work in all types of weather.
Ø Experience with system modeling software, GIS/ESRI, AutoCAD and related engineering tools.
Ø Experience with a municipal utility or electric cooperative is preferred. Familiarity with RUS or FERC accounting helpful.
