Job Overview
The Purchasing Supervisor is responsible for leading, coordinating, and prioritizing purchasing activities across multiple buyers and support roles. This position ensures timely procurement of materials, services, MRO, and outside processing in support of production, quality, and operational goals. The Purchasing Supervisor acts as the primary escalation point for purchasing-related issues and ensures consistency, accuracy, and compliance across purchasing workflows.
Scope of Responsibility
The Purchasing Supervisor provides functional oversight and guidance to Buyers I, Buyers II, and purchasing support personnel handling production materials, MRO, supplies, outside processing, and data/log management.
Pay Rate: $60,000 - $81,000 per year
Responsibilities
- Provide daily direction, prioritization, and support to the purchasing team
- Balance workloads across buyers to meet production and business needs
- Serve as escalation point for purchasing, supplier, and internal issues
- Provide backup coverage as needed to ensure continuity of operations
- Maintain compliance with internal purchasing procedures and work instructions
- Oversee and maintain purchasing logs.
- Maintain Vendor database.
- Assist with pricing visibility.
- Identify opportunities to improve purchasing efficiency, accuracy, and cycle time.
- Support standardization and best practices across the purchasing function
Supervisory Responsibility
- Supervises purchasing operations, ensuring timely procurement of goods and services, vendor compliance, cost control, and adherence to company policies.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Experience in purchasing or procurement, within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or coordinate a purchasing team.
- Strong understanding of production purchasing, MRO, supplies, and outside processing.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and purchasing reports.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Skills
- Ability to read an engineering drawing and bill of materials.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and work independently.
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and maturity with good judgment.

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be accepted.
- 3+ years of experience in a similar position.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Competence with general computer skills and the use of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Skilled in the operation of standard office machines including printer, scanner, and fax.
- Industry knowledge or a willingness to learn.
- Team-based approach.
