OVERVIEW
The Social Emergency Medicine & Health Equity Fellowship is a 12-month advanced training designed to develop leaders in addressing health inequities and the social determinants of health (SDOH). Fellows will integrate clinical practice, research, education, and advocacy while working with underserved populations through innovative programs such as street medicine and mobile health units.
- Program Length: 1 year
- Salary: $125,000 base salary, with competitive moonlighting opportunities
- Clinical Shifts: Eight 10-hour shifts per month
- Education: SAEM certified, Keck School of Medicine USC Street Medicine Program, National Health Care for Homeless Council, and Street Medicine Institute
FELLOWSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
- Clinical Training: Deliver care to vulnerable populations through street medicine, mobile units, and clinics.
- Research: Lead impactful studies on health equity and SDOH, with opportunities for national presentations and publications.

Requirements
ELIGIBILITY
- Active California medical license
- Board certification or eligibility (ABEM/ABOEM)
- Commitment to advancing health equity in emergency medicine
CURRICULUM STRUCTURE
- Clinical Practice: Integrate SDOH into emergency care through monthly ED and street medicine shifts.
- Education: Participate in bi-monthly didactics and deliver innovative teaching sessions.
- Community Engagement: Collaborate with organizations to create sustainable health equity projects.
- Research: Conduct projects on SDOH or health policy, with mentorship and resources provided.
- Advocacy: Engage in legislative training and policy initiatives at local and national levels.
- Professional Development: Access mentorship, leadership training, and national conferences.
