POSITION: Silviculture Forester
LOCATION: Redding, California
JOB SUMMARY:
FWS Forestry California, LLC, the California subsidiary of F&W Forestry, is seeking to fill the silviculture forester position to assist with the reforestation, site preparation, vegetation spray and pre-commercial thinning for a large industrial timberland ownership.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with the implementation of the silviculture program to effectively establish and manage conifer plantations.
Performs contract administration for silvicultural activities including oversight of tree planting, vegetation management, site preparation, and pre-commercial thinning.
Conducts field work associated with the layout of herbicide treatment areas, pre-commercial thinning and reforestation areas
Performs stocking surveys and other monitoring activities in accordance with state and Company compliance standards
Produces accurate and legible field GIS maps for contractors in ArcGIS Pro
Maintain documentation electronically of all silvicultural activities and coordinate with the GIS manager to ensure silvicultural treatments tracked
Evaluate and recommend site-specific silvicultural requirements including mechanical and chemical site prep, regeneration needs, herbicide treatments and PCT.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources or related field is preferred.
California Pest Control Advisors (PCA) license with weed and vertebrate pest categories is preferred but will consider candidates who can pass the PCA exam within 2 years.
Experience with field navigation including topographic maps, GPS, compass, and PLSS systems.
Candidates must be able to hike, sometimes traveling long distances, along closed roads or trails, often in steep, brushy terrain.
Skilled in the use of computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and GIS-based programs
Candidates must be able to confidently, safely, and efficiently navigate logging roads with a 4WD vehicle or ATV in areas with little or no cell phone reception.
Self-motivation, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills are essential.
Must be able to work independently and alone in the field.
Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively, and the ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus
SALARY & BENEFITS: This is a full-time exempt position based on education, experience and qualifications with a preliminary salary range of $50,00 to $85,000. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, holidays, vacation, and 401k with employer match available to full-time employees.
