Description
Ready to join a progressive team and work in one of the most beautiful places in the country? Have we got the job for you!
Santa Barbara Humane is seeking a Shelter Manager for our Santa Barbara Campus. This is an exciting opportunity to lead our Transfer Intake Program, directly helping over 1,000 animals from overcrowded shelters each year, and oversee a dedicated team of animal care staff in all aspects of daily shelter operations and client services.
The Shelter Manager reports to the Director of Shelter Services to manage adoption-driven capacity, humane sheltering, and animal placements through medical treatment, enrichment, foster care, behavior modification, transfers, and marketing. It’s both a boots-on-the-ground job and a significant leadership position that contributes to our strategic approach and overall success.
Serving our community since 1887, Santa Barbara Humane is one of the oldest animal welfare organizations on the West Coast and our county’s largest non profit animal welfare organization, with two campuses each providing low-cost veterinary services (9 veterinarians on staff plus a mobile clinic), affordable dog training classes, volunteer opportunities, and of course, animals looking for new families. Each campus handles approximately 1200 owner-surrendered, transfer, and stray animals a year with robust teams of employees and volunteers.
Santa Barbara Humane is a financially secure, inclusive organization that provides excellent fully sponsored health, dental, and vision insurance, plus generous vacation and holiday pay, and discounts on veterinary care, Hills Science Diet pet food, and pet supplies. We say we empower one another with knowledge, empathy, encouragement, and recognition, then do that by making time for learning, celebrating success (including monthly staff socials!), and appreciating the unique ups and downs of this work. If that hasn't convinced you to inquire about this job consider this: our staff gets paid to take shelter dogs to the beach. Join us!
