Youth Homes is seeking a part-time, licensed Clinical Documentation Reviewer - CA Medi-Cal Specialty Mental Health Services (SMHS). Requires strong knowledge of Medi-Cal documentation guidelines, clinical judgment, and the ability to apply compliance standards to provide practical guidance to service providers and Clinical Directors.
In this role, you are responsible for ensuring that all clinical documentation within the agency meets California Medi-Cal SMHS requirements and Contra Costa County contract standards. You will conduct an expert review of SMHS's daily progress notes (and assessments, treatment plans, and other clinical records, as needed) to ensure accuracy, medical necessity, and compliance. The reviewer offers constructive feedback to clinical providers and directors and identifies patterns in documentation quality.

The starting pay for this non-exempt position is $50.00–$60.00 per hour (DOE) with a flexible work schedule, averaging up to 19 hours per week.
Requirements
Key Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited academic institution.
- California clinical license LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, with the Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) License must be active and in good standing (no previous violations)
- Minimum of 3 years post-licensure clinical experience providing mental health services, case management, or related behavioral health care.
- Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and culturally responsive feedback.
- Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Proficient with electronic health record (EHR) systems, Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience providing and reviewing California SMHS with strong knowledge of Medi-Cal medical necessity and CalAIM compliance, treatment plan alignment, allowable interventions, including service codes requirements across service types (individual therapy, rehabilitation, collateral, case management, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications (Experience)
- At least 3 years of clinical experience within a California SMHS system and expertise in Medi-Cal compliance, medical necessity standards, service coding, and documentation across multiple service modalities, as well as experience auditing clinical records and training or coaching clinicians on compliant service delivery.
